Unfortunately this practice has lost our business. The doctor was competent and in fact did solve a dermatological issue. However after one $300 follow up we were charged an additional $300 on the same day/appointment for the next scheduled follow up which was over a month and a half in the future. We were not told we would be charged the $300. They just charged it. When we called to ask them why we were double billed they then told us it was “prepayment” for the next appointment. Well as this is not stated any where nor was it authorized I requested that the next appointment be cancelled and the money be refunded. They refused to refund the non authorized $300 future appointment charge. If I book a reservation for a hotel or a restaurant or a hair cut and if they take a deposit should I cancel within a stated time frame the deposit is refunded. This practice took an unauthorized deposit and will not refund it. They would only offer a credit to be used at their office. This is highly unethical and very short sighted. We would have been patients for a long time and would have spent much more than the $300 over a long loyal relationship. I won’t support a business that feels they can’t earn their money but need to take it unscrupulously. They said it was due to “recent cancellation issues”. It would be valid to take a deposit if it were authorized AND there was a stated cancellation period in which to receive the deposit back. Keeping unauthorized money is not ok. I suggest putting a fair written policy in place so your patients feel properly treated. As a follow up to my review in response to the office reply. The remedy would have been to credit my card when I asked you to. And it is simply not true that we were pre charged for appointment #2. Which is why I had 2 charges on my credit card on the same day. For appointment number 2 and appointment number 3. The second appointment we made after the first was NOT prepaid. And was successfully completed and paid at the conclusion. Which is precisely WHY I called to inquire why there was an extra $300 charge after the second appointment. Furthermore there is no stated policy for a cancellation. We canceled the appointment over a month in advance and was not offered a refund of the booking fee. There was no stated policy that an appointment charge was non refundable and in fact when we questioned it we were told in writing that it was a “new” policy. Why you feel entitled to keep $300 for an appointment that was cancelled over a month in advance is ludicrous. Attached is the payment policy per your website. And the text we received about the “new” policy. Discrediting a client is in poor form and is slander. The truth is you kept money that we did not agree to give you. Keeping deposits is illegal. I asked for my money to be returned to my credit card. You refused therefore there is nothing to remedy certainly not your reputation. I am filing a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs and it will now be up to them to decide the facts.

Dr Mays is an absolute expert on hair loss. After a few stressful experiences with other dermatologists it was so refreshing to talk to her and I feel total confidence in her care.

Dr Mays is fine for someone younger...I am 68 years old and was recommended to see her for scaring after Melonoma surgery and was in hopes there was something that would clear it a bit (not completely) with some kind of non surgical method. Dr Mays wanted to remove the scarring with surgery... and that was something I was not willing to do! Lastly I bought some sunscreen protection specifically asking if it smelled like sunscreen (that store smell in most sunscreens). they did not have a sample to try it so I bought one and used it the same afternoon. And yes, it smells like store bought sunscreen (even though it might be the best medically produced product). I told the office manager today and will be bringing it back even though they will not credit me.
